51 - 61 Hands in Action at the Aphasia Institute

Many volunteers at the Aphasia Institute work directly with clients in our Introductory Program, Community Aphasia Program and outreach In-Home Visiting Program as communication facilitators or assistants. Aphasia is an acquired disorder caused by an injury to the brain and affects a person’s ability to communicate. It is most often the result of stroke or head injury. Volunteers are a key to helping with people who are experiencing difficulty expressing themselves when speaking, difficulty understanding the speech of others, and difficulty reading and writing.
